REGISTRATION DETAILS

HOW OLD SHOULD MY PLAYER BE TO PLAY MITE HOCKEY?

Mites can be in the age range from 4-9 years old. We recommend that your child be four years old by June 1st, 2023 to be eligible to play Mini Mites. Players born before June 1, 2014 should contact our Travel Coordinator for proper registration and placement.

Recreational Leagues are a great option for new players aged out of mites as well. More Info here:  https://www.minnesotahockey.org/recleague

HOW AND WHEN DO I REGISTER MY CHILD?

Mite 3s and Travel U8 - Register by September 15th.

House Mites (1&2) and House U8 - Register by September 30th.

New Mite (Mini-Mite and U6) players - Registration is open July through November 2023.  If you missed our registration dates, please contact our Mite Coordinator at mitesacyha@gmail.com.

IS MY CHILD TOO OLD TO START HOCKEY?

No! It is never “too late” to try hockey! The Mite program runs through age 9 (generally through third grade, but fourth graders with birth dates after June 1st can still play mite/U8 hockey). There are many Mite players who did not start playing until they were in second or third grade. Players at this age quickly catch up to their peers without difficulty!

If your player has a birthday Before June 1, 2014 you may contact our Travel Coordinator for proper registration and placement, or register them for the Recreational League to get started HERE. We have many players successfully return to Squirts after a season of skating in the Rec League or attending camps and skate lessons!

Does my child have to know how to skate?

NO! ACYHA Mite program is a development program, designed to teach all kids the fundamental skills necessary to play the game of hockey. We will also introduce the beginning concepts of the game itself.  Skating is the most fundamental skill of hockey, and teaching the kids to skate is a major focus of the Mite Program.

This fall we have four Try Hockey for Free Mite Clinics being offered before the start of the season. Come to any or all of the sessions. If your child wants to play hockey at any age, we will get them out on the ice and enjoying the great tradition of hockey!

In addition, we offer our Learn-to-Skate program for the first four weeks of the hockey season. This program will be open to all new mite hockey players and is FREE with the $50 New Mite Registration. The goal of this program is to help new players prepare for the hockey season by getting comfortable being upright and moving on skates!
