Game 1 vs. White Bear Lake: 4-3 WIN
Both teams fought fiercely in what turned out to be the most evenly matched and most competitive game of the whole tournament. The Falcons never trailed in the game. White Bear was up to the challenge, tying the game three consecutive times. Kieran M put the game winner away in the third period! No doubt that the player who carried the team until that time was "JV" . Jacob V (otherwise known as "the minne-bago") scored twice and had two other breakaways where he did not score. In nets Reid O turned away 22 shots for the victory. The other Falcon goal was a nice wrister by Jack Y.
Game 2 vs. Wayzata Gold: 7-2 LOSS
This game was certainly a test for the Falcons. Wayzata top to bottom has a very deep squad of talented players. The players after a long day seemed up for the challenge as the Falcon scored first on a rebound goal by Brady A. That goal then woke the blue army - they charged back with a goal to tie the game. Wayzata tallied another goal to take a 2-1 lead after the first period. In the second period Wayzata buzzed the Falcons and scored three consecutive goals to extend their lead to 5-1. In the third, Jack P scored his first Squirt goal to cut the lead to 5-2. In the last 90 seconds Wayzata scored two meaningless goals to finish the game. In nets, Ben S faced 28 shots and performed well against the toughest team the Falcons have faced this year.
Game 3 vs. Sartell: 10-1 WIN
Third place game. Hungry for some hardware the Falcons in their road blue jersey debut, came out and quickly pounced on the Sabres from Sartell by scoring three first period goals. In the second period it was more of the same with the Falcons buzzing the suburban St. Cloud team with 7 straight goals, stretching the lead to 10-0. In the third period, Coach Kevin made some lineup adjustments and moved players to new positions. Netminder Reid O made 15 saves until a Sartell player raced in on a breakaway and scored with three seconds remaining. Goals in this game were scored by Kieran M (3), Jacob V (2), Jack H, Bronson M, Brady A, John S, and Brayden G.
Overall, it was an exiciting weekend and a great way to start our season. We were on top of the world with that first win and hit the valley after the second loss. The team was focused and hungry for a win in the third place game and left no doubt that we would come home with some hardware. WAY TO GO TEAM!!
