Damian Carrasco-Zanini Head Coach

Coach's Background

I played AA and AAA all through youth hockey near Milwaukee, WI until high school. Had numerous teammates that went on to play D1 college hockey, and a couple that currently play in the NHL. Had some great coaches that made a lasting impact on me, which is exactly why I wanted to get into coaching. Played four years of varsity hockey. Coached at power skating camps throughout high school. This is the first time coaching a team, and while I have a lot of experience from the player side of the game, I will be constantly learning throughout the year right alongside the players.

My goals as a coach:

1.) For the players to have fun

2.) To have every player improve throughout the year. The two can go hand-in-hand.

You'll notice that winning is not one of my goals. We could lose every single game this year, but as long as the players give 100%, improve, and have fun, I will consider it a successful season.

Growing up playing hockey taught me a lot of things that, in my opinion, aren't as easy to teach in school. I will be emphasizing, both directly and indirectly, these four points:

    1. Goal Setting - I asked every player to write down one thing about their game that they are going to work on improving this year (i.e. skating, shooting, etc.). I will be bringing these goals up throughout the year with players individually. It is up to each player whether or not they are going to work on their goal, but it is my job to try to motivate them to do that.

    2. Leadership - Every month, the players will vote for 1 captain and 2 alternate captains. They will not be allowed to vote for themselves. I will go over with them what it means to be a captain and what they should look for in the teammates that they vote as captains.

    3. Dealing with Adversity - In my opinion, this is one of the most important thing that hockey can teach kids.

    4. Working on a Team
